We finally had that weekend free of plans I was yearning for, and it’s paid off so far.

We successfully packed up Christmas at our house. Yes, we’re late on doing so. And we’re late every year. But you can’t say we didn’t make the most out of the season and our $80 Fraser fir.

Other than packing up Christmas, we bought, picked up and set up our new-to-us elliptical, did a general cleaning on the house, cleaned out the attic and purged some of the crap we’ve been hoarding, I got control of the mound of dishes, I’m working on tackling the laundry (the pile of clean clothes is finally gone), I’m done with most of the grocery shopping for the week, I’ve made a pot of soup to eat through the week, and well, I’m just feeling good about the accomplishments.

Sure, there is more that needs to be done. But there always will be more that needs to be done. At least now it’s a more manageable to-do list and not one that is choking me and making me look for a nice, big rock to crawl under.

No meetings for me because I got back on track this week and took off 2.2 pounds. That means only 0.2 pounds from the holidays are lingering. Woo hoo!

I did well on food, and I did decent on exercise, making it out two days for 30-minute walk/jogs with Lucky. Two days isn’t great, but it’s better than zero days.

Speaking of exercise, I’ve got some exciting news: We bought a (gently!) used elliptical from a seller on Craigslist. It’s a pretty nice machine, and we paid a fraction of the price. Since we now have a machine in the house, I’m going to let my gym membership, which I sadly rarely used, expire when it’s up in February.

The gym is nice and all, but I’m not a fan of crowds or traffic, so driving there when I could miss traffic and spending time there when it wasn’t crowded was a challenge for me. The only time I found neither issue a factor was before the butt-crack of dawn, when most of the sane world is asleep. The problem with that is the whole waking-up-insanely-early thing. Those who know me know I’m not a morning person, so getting up at 5:30 AND working out was a two-part challenge for me, and one I failed on more than I succeeded.

But now. Now there is an elliptical trainer just sitting in my house, waiting for me to hop on it. I can wake up a mere 30 minutes earlier (like when my alarm goes off instead of hitting snooze for that half hour), get in a nice workout, shower and be at work without having to sacrifice my generally sunny demeanor for the day.

I’ve got my food motivation, my exercise motivation and a no-excuse way to get that exercise done. It will be difficult not to do well from here on out.

I can’t say I have any real issues in life that are dragging me down. I really don’t have anything to complain about.

But I’m tired. I’m bored. Sometimes life gets too routine and too mindless, leaving  me cranky and on auto pilot. My brain has been in limbo. I’ve sat down and attempted to write something witty and brilliant but haven’t been able to produce anything of worth.

I’d like a weekend without anything that needs to be done – one free of plans allowing me to do whatever strikes my fancy.

I know getting off my duff and getting moving (aka exercising) would give me a much-needed boost, but it is so hard to get moving. It’s a sick, vicious circle.

And another thing I know would make me feel better is reading a good book. But there’s always laundry to do, dishes to wash and put away, meals to plan, dinner to cook, errands to run. I can never seem to check off that whole to-do list.

This may not be witty or brilliant, but it’s the truth, and that’s better than nothing.

Late again. Big surprise.

I gained again (+1). Big surprise.

Can you tell I’ve lost a bit of momentum? I’m giving it one more week before I haul my chub into the WW meetings.

We finally fixed Lucky’s habit of getting in the garbage. I found a plastic Simple Human garbage can with a locking lid. $40 later, one bad pet habit down.

And another to go. Since he was a kitten, Rocky has refused any sort of water but straight from the faucet. Luckily it’s just the bathroom faucets, but the jerk will go in and scratch at the sink or hit the drain stopper till one of us would turn the faucet on for him. None of this was much of a problem b/c it was so amusing. Until the water ban hit, that is. I didn’t feel it was right to have the water running so my cat could drink.

So we got a continuous watering bowl (not electric, gravity) and finally got Rocky away from the sink (most of the time).

The only problem is he still likes the “running water” effect and yanks/hits at the bowl to make fresher water run from the container into the bowl, splashing the water from the bowl everywhere and leaving puddles by their food/water area.

We thought we had fixed him by keeping the little jug full of water all the time, making it heavier, and putting a non-slip mat under it, but the damn hellcat figured out how to move it around still.

So now I’m left searching the Internet for a more difficult-to-move water bowl since Rob refuses to bolt it to the floor.

Some people spend stupid amounts of money spoiling their pets. Me? I have to spend money on outsmarting them and their bad habits. Nice.
