My hair is longer now than it has been since I was 13 or so. I’m happy with the length for now, but I’ve said I will donate it once I decide to go for a big chop.
I was thinking about Locks of Love, mainly because that’s the charity I hear most about but also because I was told they donate to children battling cancer.
“The New York Times” says that’s wrong. This article certainly explains more than I’ve ever been told. And because I have no intention of making a hair donation soon (nor have I ever had enough hair to donate), I’ve never felt the need to investigate the matter further on my own.
I will be looking more into it, though, before the time to chop arrives. I encourage anyone else who has considered donating their hair to, at the very least, read the article.
Late again.
I’m up 0.2 pounds for the week. I definitely went a little overboard on not-so-good stuff Saturday night and have been trying to flush my system since. I had the points for it, but points don’t really matter sometimes.
On the plus side, I used the elliptical three times last week.
Here we go again. New week, new chances to do well.
Hot chocolate in Starbucks coffee on a cold day, that’s what.
I believe I’ve said before how I lust after Starbucks’ delicious beverages. I believe I’ve also said before how I’m a cheap-o.
The two don’t exactly go well together.
But I’ve found the happy middle, and I’m enjoying it as I type this. I have Starbucks coffee to brew at home on my stylish Mr. Coffee coffee maker. To each cup, I add a packet of powdered hot chocolate mix. My favorites are made by the folks at Land O Lakes, but they come with 3 WW points for each pack. On a day when I just can’t afford the extra points, I choose Swiss Miss’ diet hot chocolate mix. It isn’t as good, but it does the trick.
But the Land O Lakes packets … oh, how they rock my world. They rocked my world in my pre-coffee days (um, before 2006. Ha!), and they are still rocking my world. My favorites in coffee this year are the mint, double chocolate and the caramel.
The only problem is I don’t know where to get them around here. I want to say I saw them somewhere, but I can’t remember. And my stash is running low. I guess I’ll be hunting them down soon. Like, this weekend.
1. I finally got on the elliptical last night and busted a move for 20 minutes. It’s a big difference from walking/jogging around the neighborhood, so I’ve got to work my way up to longer spans of time. But hey, the score is now Elliptical: 1, Me: 1. Oooh, the drama unfolds.
2. My parents finally joined the rest of us here in the 21st century and had the Internet hooked up at their house yesterday. They have my old(ish) 2005 iMac with iSight, so we were able to do a quick video chat last night. It pretty much made my week.
Now everyone else up there needs to follow suit and get video chat capabilities. Then you can see me! Who wouldn’t want to see me, right?
3. The weatherfolks were calling for winter precipitation overnight, and Rob woke me up when he came to bed much later than I did to tell me it was snowing. I was in a comatose state, so I didn’t really feel the full excitement. But I sure felt it when my alarm went off at 6:30 this morning.
I’m usually quick to hit the snooze and burrow back down in the blankets, but I was on my feet and rushing to press my face against the window the second the alarm went off. Then I went out and took pictures. Then I was just too excited to go back to sleep.
Now my house has this wonderful white glow from the snow’s reflection. I hope the temperatures cooperate for a little longer and keep the snow around for at least the whole day. It’s a lot to hope for here in the South, but stranger things have happened!
I’ll tell you what: Rolling out of bed, throwing on your gym clothes, driving 10 minutes, checking in and putting your stuff down before you hop on the elliptical is much more body-friendly than what I did this morning.
I thought I was being brilliant (lazy but brilliant) by hitting the snooze and enjoying a good dream until the last possible minute that would give time for 20 minutes on the elliptical and a shower before I had to head out the door to work. But my groggy self completely forgot about the rest of the morning bed-gym routine and only factored in and executed the home part: roll out of bed, get dressed, walk 30 seconds to elliptical, hop on.
Yeah, what resulted was me getting nasty dizzy by minute seven. I had to throw in the towel and ended up taking Lucky on a leisurely 10-minute stroll up the street.
Day one with the elliptical: Not so good. Back to the drawing board.
I’ll be doing a good bit of planning out my routine today. I’m going to have to allow for some sort of waking-up period, but a part of me thinks that time will only be used to more sleep. I’m sneaky like that. I could roll out of bed, throw on my gym clothes and take Lucky for a quick walk to wake/warm me up, but Lucky is so often just as difficult to get out of bed as me. In fact, I have to sometimes carry her lazy booty to the door. And the other side of that is she is just so darn cuddly that she convinces me to stay in cuddle mode.
Perhaps I’m going to have to become an afternoon-workout person. Perhaps my quest to become a morning person is a waste of time and effort.
