Let’s go ahead and get the big business on and off the table, hmm?

No, the fact that I’m pregnant with triplets still hasn’t sunk in. Rob and I are slowly but surely starting to move on from “Did that seriously just happen?” to “So, we should probably start planning to plan to plan for three babies.” Well, sort of.

We have such an amazingly supportive group of family and close friends who are a bunch of magicians. Their excitement and support is changing our fears into more confident excitement mixed with fear. The pregnancy will be a long, hard road, but we’re starting to feel like we just might be OK once the babies move into the outside world.

The No. 1 thing I hear lately is “How are you feeling?” so, without no further ado, how I’m feeling:

In short? Great!

I’ve always been a total weirdo with hormones, and my weirdness is apparently continuing into pregnancy. In my anovulatory times when I needed progesterone supplements to end/start my cycle, the hormone prescriptions that make most people sick made me feel spectacular. Now I’m on similar supplements due to a progesterone deficiency, plus the raging hormones one has when gestating three babies – well, that’s a lot of hormones, and anyone would expect me to feel a little wacky. But I don’t.

I get tired earlier, starting with the epic yawns at about 6:30, but I force myself to stay awake until 10ish because of how I’ve timed my progesterone supplements.

I was more hungry more often, but I’m starting to realize I need to eat more small meals. A big meal leaves me feeling uncomfortably full longer than it should.

I’ve had some mild morning sickness – and, yes, only in the morning – but it feels like nothing more than being mildly carsick or hungover. I haven’t felt even close to vomiting, and I’m ever so grateful for that.

So, that’s it. So far. Oh, yeah – I’m bloated like whoa. I seriously hope the progesterone supplements or the pregnancy is to blame. Otherwise, I’m binge-eating in my sleep.

Speaking of sleep, I sleep like the dead. I fall asleep right away and sleep like a rock the entire night. For a person who’s always had an awful time falling asleep and staying asleep, it’s the most glorious thing ever.

I think that pretty much covers the pregnancy stuff. Onto my late, late, late Project 365 photos:

cheddar & broccoli mac & cheese (173/365)

For a few days, sipping on a Coke through the morning helped keep the nausea at bay. I splurged on Mexican Coke for the real sugar instead of the high fructose corn syrup. Um, real sugar? DELICIOUS. (174/365)

One of my besties, Laura, sent a sweet happy-pregnancy care package. Those Jolly Ranchers are my new no-nausea secret. They rock my world. Thanks again, Laura! (175/365)

I yanked this photo from Heir to Blair. Beth Anne and Doug came to visit, and we spent some quality time on our boat, baking in the zillion-degree NC heat. Notice my blue Jolly-Rancher tongue. (176/365)

Speaking of Auntie Beth Anne, she is already spoiling her future nieces/nephews. She brought us this sweet basket filled with three-of-everything goodies, including three wee penguins – Auntie BA’s nicknames for the trio. (177/365)

Last but DEFINITELY not least, Rob and I want to thank you all for the congratulations, well wishes and the enormous amount of support you’ve thrown our way this week. We are so excited to share our wonderful news with you all and truly appreciate the kindness you’ve all shown. Infertility is a real bitch, and we’re thrilled to be surviving it so far. If you’re fighting infertility, we wish you nothing short of your very own wild success story. <3

PANDA POWER!

Once upon a time, my friend Jen started a wee phenomenon online. Jen learned that pandas can only get pregnant once a year and decided that, if pandas can keep their species alive with only a two-day window, those of us fighting infertility can get pregnant as well.

I recently got my own wee online panda friend to cheer me on and, soon after, saw this little guy at IKEA. I just had to have her. My lucky panda has been hanging out with me ever since then.

I think she’s pretty lucky, don’t you?

I believe the phrase o’ the day is HOLY SHIT.

Yes, you read that correct. TRIPLETS.

Rob and I went to the RE today for my first ultrasound. I’ve been keeping a dirty secret from you guys for nearly three weeks now.

Let’s pause to congratulate me on keeping my lips (mostly) zipped for NEARLY THREE WHOLE WEEKS. I can keep the secrets of all my friends, but if I have my own secret, it’s torture to stay quiet. It’s terrible.

Anywho, you want details?

The doctor came in and asked how I was feeling – nervous, I said. She was asking more about being tired or nauseated, though. Check on the first, and, just yesterday, check on the second. Today was absolutely insane on the anxiety level, though, so my anxiety trumped everything else, and I really didn’t feel any of my previous pregnancy symptoms.

Hence the nervous. I was terrified that we’d go to the doctor today and get awful news again.

Well, it didn’t turn out like that.

I let loose a huge sigh of relief when my doctor spotted a healthy heartbeat of one little baby. And then another. And then another.

She announced the third, and I shit you not, I said, “NO.”

Sorry, Baby C. You scared your mama.

After four amazing beta hCG tests, I was expecting twins (well, if all was well), but I never once suspected three. Only a few teased about the possibility of three (LESLIE), but I’m pretty sure all were joking.

The joke’s on us, apparently.

According to the date of my last menstrual period, I am exactly 6 weeks along today.

Baby A is measuring a bit ahead at 6 weeks, 4 days and has a heartrate of 116.

Baby B is measuring right on the money at 6w1d with a heartrate of 119.

Baby C, our little peanut, is measuring a bit behind at 5w6d with a heartrate of 104.

All measurements match up with their heartrates, though it’s a bit puzzling why Baby C is lagging behind a little. It could be that we have a little bit of a late bloomer, or Baby C might not be as strong as his/her siblings.

For now, it’s triplets. Our doctor advised us that it’s possible one or more might not make the long battle to the outside world, but for now, it’s triplets. My estimated due date (although a bit of a moo point when considering multiple babies) is Valentine’s Day.

I go back for a second ultrasound in two weeks.

Oh, how do we feel about this?

1. SHOCKED.

2. Scared.

3. SHOCKED.

4. Excited.

Internet, say hi to P, B & J. :-)

p.s. For those interested, my beta numbers were:

10dpo: 53.6; 12dpo: 222; 15dpo: 706; 18dpo: 2,175; 23dpo (checked due to spotting): 13,154

I do not enjoy sitting outside in 95-degree weather – not even in the shade.

since Mother Nature isn’t doing her job …

I’m no master gardener, but something tells me this plant was mislabeled. Those don’t look like green bell peppers to me. The problem is I’m a total weenie about hot food. I guess Rob – with tastebuds of steel – will be testing these to see what kind they are. Another problem? How the crap do I know when these mystery peppers are ready?

Also? Some little asshole(s) is snacking on my leaves. Jerk.
