I don’t understand dreams.

I woke up sad this morning after dreaming about my grandma (my dad’s mom). She’s one of my favorite people ever, and I’ve missed her so, so, so much since she passed away when I was 17 (early 2000).

Last night, I dreamed that she came back to us for a visit – she had definitely died, but she stopped in to hang out for a bit. She was at our house in NC (which obviously wasn’t even dreamed of back in 2000), and we were playing some silly video game*.

We were waiting for my dad to get there, then I was going to show her our wedding video and album.

:(

I woke up before I could do that, and I woke up with tears in my eyes.

I just miss her so much. It was cool to “see” and “hear” her again, but it makes it that much more difficult.

* About the video games – Grandma didn’t play video games, and she probably thought they were silly. But I do recall that “Today” had a little blurb the other day about old folks playing the Nintendo Wii and other games. I have no idea what the story was about, but that’s where I’m guessing Grandma playing a game with me came from.

Down .4 lbs. Again. I’m yo-yoing like a mad women here at 155, and I’m getting tired of it.

The good news, though, is that the craziness at work has seemed to die down some, and I should be leaving at a normal time once again. Thank goodness.

Also, I’ve already done my grocery shopping for the week, so I won’t have that eating up afternoon time anymore either.

So.

I had that .4 loss last week with only one (crappy) elliptical workout and two long walks with Lucky.

I’m back to aiming for five elliptical workouts this week, so I’m hoping to get past that 10-pound mark. Finally.

Also, the pedometer is pretty surprising. I get in right around 4,000 steps on a day when I work and do nothing else (elliptical usage isn’t included). If I run an errand, I get in right around 6,000. Good to know!

That’s how many steps I logged yesterday. With my stride, that comes out to 2.55 miles.

In the spirit of full disclosure, that does include a 3,755-step walk with Lucky. Without that walk, I’d be at 3,597 steps.

That’s much better than I thought, though! I sit at a desk all the livelong day, so I was really expecting a much lower number.

Now I just need to add those extra steps into my normal daily routine, and I’ll be good to go.

I can’t remember if I said this before, but to recap: “They” recommend taking 6,000 steps a day for health and 10,000 steps a day for weight loss.

Since my current form of exercise is my elliptical machine, which has a controlled stride distance and thusly doesn’t produce accurate pedometer readings, I’m aiming for 6,000 steps a day plus my workouts.

My current ideas for increasing the number of steps I take are to walk around the block to get to the office instead of walking directly to the building (I currently park in the farthest parking lot) and/or to add a daily walk with Lucky.

I know the latter would benefit both Lucky and me, so that’s most likely, especially when it’s a million degrees outside and I’m not wanting to walk into work smelling like a locker room. At least if I walk around the neighborhood when it’s hot, I have a shower to de-stinkify myself in.

Back in December, I discovered that a mouse had defaced my box of and some of my Baby Sitters Club and Sweet Valley Teen (heck yes!) books we had in the garage.

Rob cleaned out the whole garage and found tons of mouse poops everywhere, but there was no sign of the little bugger or his nest (or a colony’s nest).

This weekend, I discovered that that damn mouse had chewed through the dog food bag in the garage, so Rob once again cleaned out the whole garage and found no evidence of a mouse other than the chewed-through bag and mouse poops.

Last night, Rob discovered that the mouse chewed through the new bag of dog food AGAIN! This time, it was only a teeny hole, and no food was scattered around.

Yes, it’s taken three times, but we’re finally moving the food in the house.

I don’t get it. This mouse, or these mice, must be just treating our garage as their buffet and toilet, because surely we’d find evidence of a nest. I’m convinced I have a mouse stalker who waits for me to get home in the evenings so he can scurry in for his din-din.

And can I just tell you how freaked out I am to go into the garage? I’ve never seen a mouse “in the wild before” (only in cages at pet stores or weird friends’ houses), and I’d like to keep it that way.

I’d send Rocky out in the garage to do his natural duties, but I know he’ll pee himself when the big air compressor kicks on.

Le sigh.

Lucky is obsessed with these plush squeaky bones I get from PetsMart. They’re made of a hideous leopard/crusty, dried dog drool print and are obnoxiously loud. But only pizza brings her more joy, so we allow the toys.

They’re cheap – $3 – and hold up as you would expect a $3 toy would when it spends the bulk of its time in a dog’s mouth. She probably goes through one every couple of months (she’s small, OK?), but we find the occasional tear from the spot where she has ripped off the tag.

We’ve already determined that I’m a cheap-o. We’ve also previously determined how much I detest driving around here.

So what’s a girl to do with a dog who is happily ripping apart the polyester fill spilling out of her favorite toy?

I sew the hole. That’s right, I’m that cheap and that anti-traffic that I actually restuff and stitch up my dog’s $3 toy. I don’t know if that’s worse that sewing holes in socks, but I assume it’s pretty comparable.

The thing is, Lucky doesn’t like to “share” her toy with anyone. This means we have to fight with her to grab it just so we can throw it and continue playing fetch.

Imagine having to take that toy away and use a sharp object close to your sensitive fingers. She basically sits at my feet, shaking and whining, as she “waits” for me to finish. She’ll occasionally try to grab for it, but she hasn’t succeeded yet.

Somehow, I imagine I’ll be sewing up prized possessions for years to come. I guess I’d better get used to it.

Oh, and did I mention this is the extent of my sewing capabilities?
