I’m on day three of adding a scoop of the Kashi shake mix to my morning smoothies. It wasn’t a fluke – it really has made a big difference in my day.

First, I get hungry like a normal person now thanks to the added protein, I’m guessing. This is a phenomenon I only experience when I did the South Beach Diet for a few weeks before our wedding. Instead of my normal “hungry” feeling, which felt more like, “Oh my God. I need to eat RIGHT NOW or else I will surely pass out,” came on out of nowhere and would hit me like a Mack truck. One second I’d be fine, the next second I’d be shaky, panicky and looking for whatever I could shove down my throat the fastest.

The culprit, apparently, is my carb-heavy diet (or maybe the fact that my diet is light on protein). Whatever it was, the high-protein, no-carb SB Diet gave me a glimpse of real hunger. I’d slowly start to feel the gauge on my stomach drop to E, then it’d start rumbling for some food. I’d eat, and all would be well.

Long story … well, long, is that I haven’t had the shaky, panicky hunger feeling the last three days. I just get, well, hungry. It also seems like my breakfast is sticking with me longer because I haven’t changed my lunch portions, and I’m able to make it through the whole work day and the after-work period before dinner without needing a substantial snack (which, in all honesty, was more like half my dinner).

Success is mine!

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday. Since I’m too lazy to make separate entries:

1. I still have to download/edit/upload photos from this weekend, when Beth Anne and Doug graced us with their presence. Good times were had, too many snacks were eaten, and I think we all walked away a little sore after our escapades on Lake Norman. I’ll try and get to the photos tonight.

2. I’ve added a scoop of the Kashi shake mix to my raspberry/strawberry smoothies for the past two mornings, and I give it two thumbs up. It does give it a more gritty or chalky texture, but the taste and good-stuff outweigh that.

As for taste, it adds a nice vanilla flavor, giving me a berries-and-cream smoothie instead of just berries and milk. For nutrients, I’m getting an additional 10g of protein and 3.5g of fiber – that’s huge! I have noticed a little difference on my hunger levels through the day, but I’m still undecided. It’s just too soon to really make a call on that.

3. The scale has dropped down to 153.4, which is higher than last week but better than earlier this week. I have a feeling I’m still shedding my weekend water weight and such and just getting back on track.

I didn’t get a workout in last night, but I was exhausted from running nonstop and not sleeping well, so I took the night off. Funny enough, taking the night off meant running grocery errands that needed to be done and doing laundry that was piling up. I didn’t catch my breath last night till 9 p.m. So much for taking the night off, but I do feel better today despite not sleeping well again last night.

Sad. I don’t have a No. 4 to add to this super-cool list. Oh, well.

I normally weigh around 154ish at night. This morning, the scale read 155.Ican’tremember. This evening, the scale reads 155.4.

So apparently those stupid pounds that seemed to hop on this weekend hopped their nasty selves right back off. I made sure to suck down 72 oz. of high-quality H20 today and stick to my WW points, and I guess that must have helped.

I got in a half-assed workout with Biggest Loser Power Sculpt, too. Half-assed partly because my shoulder is still a little funky from water-skiing and partly because I was just plain tired. At least I worked up a sweat!

In semi-related news, I finally got my hands on the Kashi shake mix I’ve hunted across Charlotte for – right there in the first store I checked with. Go figure. I’m looking forward to adding a scoop to my morning smoothie.

Food for today:

Breakfast: 1 T natural creamy peanut butter + 5 frozen, unsweetened strawberries + 1/4 cup frozen, unsweetened blueberries + 8 oz. 1% milk = delicious smoothie (I think roughly 5 WW points?)

Lunch: Lean Cuisine meat lasagna (6 WW points)

Snack: Blueberry Luna Sunrise bar and an apple (4 WW points)

Dinner: Half a leftover bratwurst, 1/4 cup macaroni salad, BIG salad of romaine lettuce and baby spinach, raisins for dessert (I’m eyeballing this as ~ 10 WW points)

I’m sitting right at 25 points, which is four over my goal, but with activity points and my weekly flex points, I’m pretty OK.

The scale this morning read 155.

155

I don’t know how a person gains 3 lbs. in a weekend, (edit) especially when that weekend is spent swimming, tubing and water skiing, but it happened. I had one alcoholic drink (vanilla vodka with diet orange soda), and I didn’t feel like I ate a ton or just unhealthy food, but something went really wrong. I do know I didn’t drink enough water on Saturday, but I drank quite a bit on Sunday and Monday to try and tip the scale back in my favor. Instead, it just went up.

I’m beyond discouraged, especially since I’m staring at my countdown clock that read 10 days, 20 hours till I’m in Mexico. On the beach. In a bikini. With all-you-can eat and drink options.

Ugh.

I started today with a PB and berry smoothie and have plans to actually count my WW points (something I am more relaxed about) for the next couple days. I hope to see some improvement. If I do, I’ll be journaling and counting everything that goes past my lips right up till when we check in at the resort.
