All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go … I’m leaving on a jet plane …
True story. We finally got everything packed and are ready to make our way to the airport for our flight to Cancun. I’ve got seven (eight?) lovely days at a Caribbean resort ahead of me. Because the resort doesn’t have many (free) Internet opportunities, and because I’m going to make the most of the whole idea of a vacation, you won’t hear from me till we’re back from our trip.
See you next weekend!

Three days from now, I’ll be sitting at our resort enjoying the surroundings and a delicious drink – probably a mojito!
The forecast is now calling for scattered thunderstorms each day of our vacation, but I’ve decided that they mean those storms that pop up and then pass as quickly as they arrived, leaving lots of time for fun in the sun.
So!
I’m more than looking forward to an awesome week away from it all with three of my favorite people. It’ll be so nice to spend quality time with Jen and Josh, and it will be SUPER nice to not have a care in the world for the week.
Paradise, here I come!
I read somewhere that figs have the most fiber of any fruit. I’ve never had a fig, but the seem to be relatively popular, so I picked up a thing of dried figs today at Trader Joe’s. I was going back and forth between dried figs or dried apricots, but since I already know and love apricots, I decided to be bold and brave and go with the figs.
They’re gross.
I zoomed back to my childhood the second I bit into one and remembered the disappointment I felt when I discovered Fig Newton at my grandma’s house. I remember thinking it just wasn’t right for a cookie to taste like that. Good news is Fig Newtons really do taste like figs. It’s not like a grape popsicle, which really leaves me pondering who decided grapes taste like grape popsicles (though I love them both!).
But the fig I ate today tasted exactly like the filling in those nasty cookies.
Now I’m stuck with these yucky things I know neither Rob nor I will touch. I should have gotten the apricots.
I just checked the weather forecast for Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, one of the closest cities to our resort.
Saturday: thunderstorm in the afternoon
Sunday: Cloudy, thunderstorms, humid
Monday: Cloudy, thunderstorms, warm, humid
Tuesday: A couple of thunderstorms
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy and very warm
Thursday: Mostly cloudy and very humid
Friday: Mostly cloudy and very humid
Saturday: Mostly cloudy and very humid
So much for a sunny beach vacation, huh? I’m officially grumpy. I just pray we don’t get hit by another tropical storm or a hurricane like the area did this past weekend.
Boo. Hiss.
At least I won’t be working, right? Sigh.
The scale read 151.4 this morning – a definite loss! I was disappointed because I saw 149.0 this weekend, but I also didn’t do so hot on drinking all my water this weekend (it’s hard to drink that much when you’re busy doing stuff!), plus I had pizza and two small homemade strawberry daiquiris Saturday night at the neighbors’ house.
I’ve been pretty diligent on watching what I’m eating, too. It’s paid off!
We’ll be in Mexico Saturday morning, and I have to say that I won’t be thinking much at all about how many calories and how much fat I’m splurging on. That’s how I was last year, and I came back with only an extra pound. That’s what you get when you’re super active, I guess!
