It’s something that crosses my mind in those fleeting, daydreaming moments, but I have never really sat down and thought about a number of dreams I have for myself and my family. Until today, that is.

I dream of:

teaching high school journalism and running the school paper;

having a stellar camera and taking some more visual editing classes. With the constantly new technology and the limitless possibilities, more classes can’t hurt;

being a college student for life. I can do without the boring assignments that keep me up all hours of the night and the tests, but I’d be happier than a pig in shit to sit through interesting classes for 8 hours a day;

doing freelance design work of some sort;

having at least one kid, no more than three;

be a stay-at-home mom at least until the kids go to school, maybe longer if it’s good for us;

having time and money to take real vacations AND go to Ohio a few times a year to visit family and friends;

having no debt except for house/car payments;

figuring out time management;

never seeing the 160s on the scale again;

making exercise a regular part of my life;

no more french-fry cravings;

having the job of Tom Hanks’ character in “Big” (you know, the playing-with-toys job);

having a chauffeur to drive me around Charlotte so I never have to deal with the traffic (because that’s more likely than my own helicopter);

being able to tell people what is on my mind without any consequences;

delicious, zero-calorie, zero-fat ice cream;

and Cedar Fair building Carowinds up to be the next Cedar Point.

Some of my dreams obviously conflict with other ones. But that’s the beauty of dreams, right?

It probably seems like a friendler, more personal greeting than “How are you?” but I’ve just about run out of answers. And it seemed the answers I did have were never good enough.

My past answers: Good; fine; great; I love it; etc. I’m not sure what people are expecting me to say, and I don’t know how to elaborate the mundane married-life aspects (groceries, bills, errands), and since it’s no secret that we have lived together for quite some time, I can’t really say much has changed.

Well, not much that I wish to discuss lightheartedly in passing polite conversation.

So instead of boring people with a polite answer for their polite question, I’ve decided it’s high time to give my answers a “me” spin. That’s right, folks. Ask me how married life is going, and you’re going to get a smart, sarcastic response.

My favorite recent answer: It’s full of pink unicorns, puppies, rainbows and puffy hearts. And cupcakes. Pink cupcakes.

Cause, you know. Pink is a color of l-o-v-e.

Come up with a more interesting question, and you just might get something more interesting (and truthful out of me).

I’m happy to report another loss. The scale read 160.4 this morning, down 1.4 for the week and 4 lbs. total.

I won’t lie. I’m disappointed. I’ve lost 4 lbs. in four weeks. That’s not really all that impressive.

Although, since I’ve been pretty, um, stationary (that’s a polite way of saying lazy), it does kind of tell me what I thought all along: I really wasn’t eating all that bad to begin with. I have obviously either changed my eating some (which I have) or the three or so workouts a week have led to the weight loss (which is possible).

In any case, my goal from last week remains the same: Move more. I didn’t make it to either day of the class I wanted to try at the gym. The lovely Charlotte traffic is to thank for that. I’m hoping this week is different (for my sanity and for timing’s sake) and I can make it home in time to take Lucky out, change and head to the gym.

My grandma always reminded me that patience is a virtue when I got impatient waiting for something or someone. I always reminded her I lacked that virtue.

Still do, in fact.

I’m installing Mac OS X Leopard on my shiny new iMac, and the little timer bar is bouncing from 1 hour, 28 minutes to more than 2 hours, to 1 hour and 30 minutes now. I’m nearly going mad watching the countdown change. What would happen if everyone’s annual Christmas countdown constantly changed? (I’m not the only one with the paper chain still, right? Right?)

Twiddling my thumbs doesn’t help pass the time, and I already cleaned the house (made myself finish before I even opened the computer box).

I’m obviously already posting a blog (on the old iMac). I could pop in my Gilmore Girls DVD and get lost in an hour-long episode of that. But what really sounds like a good idea to right now to pass the time is a walk.

Even if the computer finishes installing early, it will still be there, right? It won’t up and leave because I impatiently abandoned it, right?

53 minutes left now. Time’s running out for that walk. And Lord knows I’ll be chained to the computer making The Big Switch once it finishes.

51 minutes. OK, I’m going to change and go for a walk before I waste too much more time.

Since I don’t know the zillions of other people to thank, Steve is going to have to do for now.

I got visit from the Apple fairy today. You might know him as some other fairy. He drives a FedEx truck. But today he came bearing Apple products.

It’s not just the awesomeness that is their products that I love so much. It’s also their packaging. There’s something to be said about the sleek black boxes that have such a great feel to them. What in the world is that material, and why can’t more things be made like that?

Because Apple is awesome.
