My alarm clock, which I’ve had since freshman orientation something or other at BGSU (where you spend two days on campus during the summer), back in 2000, has finally died.

I woke up mildly late this morning, and when I grabbed for my clock to check the time, I was shocked to see a blank display where my trusty digital numbers once lived.

It’s a small travel clock that has a flip-open plastic piece to reveal the buttons to control the time settings. It doesn’t live on my bed-side table or on a dresser, I stow it under my pillow so the beeping is muffled by my pillow to keep the annoyance level at a minimum. But since it’s under my pillow, which my ear rests on, it is easy to hear.

I think I can replace the battery, but I was too shocked then frantic at getting ready on time to investigate what makes my clock work.

Still, though. Sad day today. I really hope I don’t need a new clock.

Right before I woke up this morning, I had a dream about a person I don’t particularly like. I had an unpleasant confrontation with them and really spoke my mind.

But when I woke up, I was grumpy because that person and my feelings regarding them were fresh in my mind.

It’s strange how dreams can have such an impact on real life. Well, mine, at least.

You wouldn’t think a not-real situation would have any affect on real life.

But it does.

It’s a Thanksgiving miracle. The scale read 160.6 again this morning – the same as last week.

Considering my three Thanksgiving meals and my two fast-food lunches (yes, I was bad this week), I was amazed at those numbers.

Thank God It’s Black Friday.

My day started at 4 this morning, and Rob and I were in line outside HHGregg at 4:40. In the morning. Like, before the sun rises.

We got some good deals and are probably about 70 percent done with our Christmas shopping. And that was by 10:30 a.m.

I came back and crashed on the couch, but Rob ventured back out into the nonsense a little later on (to run different errands) and came back disturbed. He declared the only sane time to brave the stores on Black Friday was precisely when we did: before the buttcrack of dawn.

And I’m happy to report we only encountered one rude person who had no concept of line etiquette. But considering the number of people shopping, I’ll gladly take just one rude shopper.

By the way, this was my first time shopping on Black Friday. I survived legendary chaos!

Bring on the Christmas season!

I’m not sure who to give Round 3 of the pizza dough war to. It came out, but it was weird.

But I am hoping it was my oven-related stupidity and not my dough-making stupidity this time.

I put the plain dough in the oven first to crisp up, but when I went to pull it out to put the toppings on, it argues about coming off the pizza stone. It seemed too raw still. But I was stubborn and pulled it off anyhow. Somehow, the dough ended up in a pile in the back of the oven. I had to pull it out by hand in a huge clump.

And in an effort to save my attempt, I rolled it out again to a somewhat pizza shape.

The result was a really thin crust that was neither crunchy nor soft. It just was. Like I told Rob, at least it tasted good, even if the texture of the crust was funny.

I may not be a dough expert, but I do know you’re not supposed to mess with dough too much. And I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what I did last night.

At least I’m learning what not to do when it comes to making dough. Now, if I could only learn what TO do. Another day, I guess.
