I jogged again today. I haven’t driven it to see how far I went, but I jogged nevertheless.
I used to laugh when others talked about running and said there needed to be some sort of perp chasing after me to get me running. I checked over my shoulder a few times tonight and saw no perp. What’s wrong with me?
I jogged a half mile today, and I didn’t die. I wasn’t timing myself, and I didn’t have a distance in my mind. In fact, I only stopped because Lucky had to poop, and once I stopped, my legs kind of felt like Jell-o.
Judging from my iPod, I’d have to guesstimate that I ran it in 5 minutes, give or take. I know I ran through a whole song that was 3 minutes, 45 seconds, plus a bit of time before that and for part of a song after that. Very scientific, I know.
I went on a four-hour shopping trip to the mall with Liz yesterday, and, not only did I sit and watch her eat lunch while I sipped a Diet Coke (I had a small lunch about an hour before we went), I walked past TWO Starbucks without caving.
Then, I went to Target on my lunch break today and again walked past the in-store Starbucks twice (in and out, duh) without caving to temptation.
I seem to finally have some control over myself. It’s about time!
Ding, ding, ding!
I’ve finally gotten past the 5-pound mark. I’m down 2.4 pounds for the week, giving me WW loss of 5.2 pounds. Finally.
I failed once again at that whole active business (worked out one day), but I rocked the house with my eating.
Being in a new 10-pound range is exciting, but it also means it’s time to recalculate my daily points. My daily allowance decreases by one, giving me 22 points each day now. I can totally do that!
Once again, I’m striving to get moving more. This week’s weather forecast is nothing short of gorgeous. It’s not my ideal weather for December, but it’s really hard to complain too much when you’re faced with five straight days forecasting sun and temperatures in the 70s (including a day at 79!). It’s hard to argue against the urge to exercise with gorgeous weather beckoning you outside to enjoy it.
This week’s weather is actually what I think I need to help get me out of my lazy rut. I’ve been trying to get up early to make it to the gym before work, but it’s just hard to do when it’s not the routine, and the routine is staying in a cozy, warm bed with a snuggly little dog. But if I make it a point to get out of the house and enjoy the weather, taking Lucky along for walks and runs, and make it through one week where I make exercising a priority, I have two weeks basically off of work when I can go to the gym whenever I want during the day. It’s easier to do when you’re not groggy and wishing for just five more minutes of sleep.
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, and one week (seven days) of cooperative weather allowing me to exercise outside when I get home from work and two weeks (14 days) of free time to get to the gym makes for 21 days of nothing interfering with my quest to be more active.
It’s just what I need.
My best good friend, Sarah, gave me an ornament with Mickey Mouse dressed in a blue graduation robe and cap (with a real-thread tassle) standing on top of a blue glass ball ornament.

It’s special for a few reasons:
1. It’s blue, my favorite color.
2. It was only the second real ornament I had call my own. The first was given to me by the boyfriend who later became my husband. The second by my best girlfriend in the world.
3. Graduation! She bought it and carefully traveled from Orlando to Detroit with it just for me!
4. Things are just special to me, m’kay?
Well, Mickey gets a special spot on our tree, high up and far, far away from the hellcat. I climbed up on a chair today to hang it, thinking about some day when I have kids and they’re helping decorate the tree, I’ll tell them that Aunt Sarah gave me that ornament years and years ago.
Then I dropped it.
It was in slow motion. I watched in horror as it tumbled through the branches, teasing at the possiblity of being safely caught in their grasps, then bounced onto the carpet and then onto the linoleum floor of the kitchen, where is shattered into a million, zillion pieces.
The only thing keeping me from crying is the fact that Mickey is still intact. And perhaps I can rig him onto another glass ornament to make it all better.
