Here we are, another McHealthy Monday. I wish I had an amazing, healthful update, but this happened:

I actually had a great week – until Friday. That’s when two of our best friends came to stay with Rob and I for the weekend. Way too many calories are involved when the four of us get together, and living far apart means we have some McFatty weekends together.

When they rolled into town, I had actually dropped the 3 lbs. I gained during the holidays. I ate well all week. I didn’t exercise, but that’s because I was hustling and bustling around the house and town, cleaning and running errands. By the time I finished with my to-do list each day, all I could do was collapse in bed.

But my good McHealthy week doesn’t count for much (well, except for the knowledge that if I hadn’t dropped those el bees, I would have added to the McFattiness rather than just taking a step forward and a step back), thanks to pasta (in a creamy, bacon-y cheese sauce), Chinese, a milkshake and that ginormous Baked Alaska at the start of this entry.

But.

‘Tis a new week, friends. After I click the publish button for this entry, I’m off to Target to get this week’s groceries and am looking forward to another McHealthy week. The great thing about putting on fast pounds by carb overload is that the pounds tend to quickly drop off once the overload is eliminated.

Overload, you are ELIMINATED.

(These photos are actually from Saturday, not today, but you’ll let this no-no slide every now and then, right? You won’t haze me for my photo banking, right?)

I was pleasantly slammed recently by three ladies I know who decided to honor me with the beautiful blogger award that’s making its way around the blogosphere.

I’m all about being concise, so I’m paying it forward in one entry.

Plus, I think I’d make my brain melt if I had to follow the award’s rules three times. Lucky me, the one with the least work came in first.

I’m concise AND lazy. I think the two compliment each other well, don’t you?

The Rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2. Copy the award & place it on you blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4. Share 7 interesting things about yourself.
5. Nominate 7 bloggers.

My not-so-secret admirers:

Tameka, Angel and Leah all tossed a nomination my way. I know each of these three amazing ladies thanks to our mutual love of – get your Judgy McJudgerson hats on, haters – the Twilight series. Luckily, we also share an undying mutual love of non-Twilight books and general nerdiness, thus providing a beautiful foundation for lovely friendship. They’re smart, funny and beautiful, and they’ve played a huge role in keeping my nose stuck in books on a more-than-regular basis.

Seven things about me:

  1. My hands and fingernails are currently tinted hot pink. I’ll give you one guess why.
  2. My favorite singer is Billy Joel. I first saw him in concert when I was 15. I shared my excitement about the upcoming concert with classmates, to which they responded: Dude, are you 40?
  3. I have an addictive personality and refuse to drink alcohol when I’m feeling angry or sad. I’m afraid of a snowball effect.
  4. I still sleep with my baby blanket, though it’s really more like a ball of thread at this point.
  5. I know the pistons in a V-8 Chrysler engine fire in this order: 1, 8, 4, 3, 6, 5, 7, 2.
  6. Last year was the first time I colored my hair something vastly different from my natural medium-dark blonde. I had it dyed a darkish brown. Now it’s purpley-pink. Talk about one giant leap for Jennykind!
  7. I have to pee.

Seven Blogs Worthy of Such an Award:

I follow too many blogs, both written by people I have the pleasure of knowing through only their writing and many I know personally. The following blogs are ones I not only highly approve of on their own, but the writers are people I’ve spent time with and adore in person. Check them out. Get to know them. Admire them. I do. Alethea, Ally, Emilee, Jamie, Jenni, Meredith and Suzanne, you ladies are all beautiful, and I love your blogs. It’s your turn to pay it forward!

I bought this personalized, handstamped ring from Tiny Tokens Designs, and I LOVE IT.

The quote is one of my favorites, “My thoughts create my world,” and it comes from “Charmed Thirds,” the third book in the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty.

It fits on a lot of my fingers, but I like it best on my right thumb.

The photos from last night didn’t properly illustrate the brightness of my hair. In natural light, I give you the morning after. A very pinky-purpley-red morning after.

I HAVE PINK HAIR

After much deliberation and polling of close friends and strangers alike, I settled on Red Wine from Jerome Russell’s Punky Color line. I didn’t want red-red, but I couldn’t decide between pink or purple. So I went for a burgundy-ish red.

We went for the chunky-streak look and grabbed some chunks, put them on foil, painted on the dye, folded up the foil (I’ve had highlights done zillions of times), and let it set. It didn’t look like I had much hair in the foil, and it set for about 50 minutes.

Then I rinsed.

And apparently five minutes of rinsing was enough to COLOR THE REST OF THE TOP OF MY HAIR and tint the bottom half.

Sooooo, yeah.

I have pinkish-red hair.

There is one itsy bitsy streak of my near-natural dark blonde that’s only tinted pink. I suspect a few washes will rid that streak of the pink, and I’ll have pink hair with a blonde streak.

To start, I did an all-over box color today to get a complete, processed slate to work with. I had grown-out highlights from last June that I was afraid would pick up too much color, so I colored my whole head a dark blonde, very close to my natural color.

Apparently the pink stuck well to it. Erm, too well.

I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do. As I see it, I can either color the rest of it pink (it looks weird having pink on top and dark blonde underneath), I can wash the shit out of it and pray some blonde streaks show back through, or I can streak back in some blonde.

I’m not panicking. Curiously enough, I can’t really say I care all that much. It isn’t what I planned, and it’s a tad odd, but … oh, well.

Plus, I kinda like my hot pink hair.
