Under penalty of death
I made a big, very serious decision today.
I’m not going to attempt to venture out for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
I was considering going to the theater to see it during a not-busy time because, really, how much different is propping my feet on the railings and leaning back in a comfy theater seat different from propping my feet and watching a movie at home? Not terribly different.
But if something were to happen, if I were to go into labor, I would hate myself. I would hate Harry Potter.
I can’t hate Harry Potter.
This decision hurts me deep down inside, but you know what? Sorry, Harry Potter, but my babies are more important.
‘Tis better to be safe than sorry.
So what’s under penalty of death? Spoilers. I’m going to hibernate from all pop culture sites and shows as much as possible. I’m going to switch the channel each time a commercial for the movie comes on (we all know they show more and more scenes once the movie is released). I’m going to avoid blogs I know may talk about it. I’m going to avoid Facebook statuses, Twitter updates and message boards as much as possible during opening weekend.
But there’s only so much I can do to avoid the idiot who runs around screaming about how thrilling it was to see the scene where Harry and Ginny fight Gollum to the death at the base of Mount Doom.
Or something like that.
So, should you be that idiot, consider this fair warning that our relationship – however great or minuscule – will be over quicker than you can say Expelliarmus.
Consider yourself warned, fellow HP fans. Oh, and have fun seeing the film. I know it’s one we’ve all been anticipating like whoa. After being disappointed in movies 4-6, I think these next two have great potential to be the best in the series.
Pip, pip!

Totally understand and think you made the right decision. I promise not to be one of those people. And if it makes you feel any better I still haven’t seen Eclipse and managed to avoid pretty much every spoiler, blog post, and status update.
That’s impressive, Kayla!
I figure this will give me the chance to do a full-series re-read before PB&J make their debut and I can safely go to the theater.
My due date is Friday (the day of the release) so we’re of split opinion if it’s a good way to kill the waiting time & potentially induce labor with the suspenseful scenes, or if it would be such a shame to have my water break right there in the theater.
As someone who attempted the movie theater in the third trimester, I assure you, you’d never make it sitting through a whole movie. I never thought of those seats as uncomfortable, but they really realllly are. Yucko.
hi! im a lurker but just wanted to say. find someone to get you a bootleg copy! you didnt hear it from me but a little bird told me that you can get them for about 5 dollars ususally the night after the movie releases. (whistles while walking away* lol orrrr do what i did while i was bed rest cheating. get a wheelchair. its like a recliner on wheels!
I have already put my ghetto fabulous connections in place to possibly procure you an um, home watchable copy. No promises, but if I do, I promise to go see it in theaters multiple times to make up for it. 😀
I also have some questionable resources to work through if T’s should somehow not work out.
Love and hugs!
You can probably easily find some crappy copy online (you know, the kind where you can see people getting up and down in the theatres?).
Although, if you do change your mind about going, I would suggest calling the theatre ahead of time and talking to a manager about your arrival. I went to one of the Twilight movies with a group of girlfriends and 3 of us were pregnant. We called, told the manager that we had 3 preggies and that they could not stand in the lines with the crazed teenagers and they let us in ahead of everyone so the preggies didn’t get trampled in the rush to see Jacob and Edward.
obviously this is a smart decision, however, i was day dreaming today of rolling you in to the theater in a wheel chair!
I think it’s a smart choice. You don’t want to end up hating Harry Potter. Then we’d have to call you She Who Shall Not Be Named. I saw HP 6 2 weeks before I had Zoe, and it uncomfortable to be that prego in a theater chair plus having to pee and miss parts. Maybe it will still be in theaters when you’re 34 weeks and you can venture out then.
I think you’re making the right choice as well. You have more than just yourself to think about right now, and PB&J are far more important than HP and those Deathly Hallows. I went to see New Moon 4 days before my due date and it was such a struggle to decide which was more important — not missing anything or not peeing my pants. LOL. Hang in there! Maybe you’ll find a pirated copy online you can watch from your couch or bed!
I KNOW that you have at least one friend that would bootleg it for you! Seriously, someone needs to sneak their Flip camera into their bag and film it for you because you deserve to see it! I know it’s hard to stay inside (especially for HP!), but you are totally doing the right thing. PBJ are way more awesome than Harry.
[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by APB, APB. APB said: LOL @ my ghetto fab friends on @jennantonica's blog. I love them so. http://dft.ba/-5ec […]
I feel a bootleg copy coming your way!
The offers for bootleg copies are cracking me up. And getting me excited. Wait, I didn’t just admit that.
WHAT?! How on earth can you restrain???
I’m going, and if there’s too much action and I go into labor, then it’s god’s plan for me. Plus a divine sign the kid should be named Harry Dumbledore Busted Plumbing.
Okay, while this saddens me to no end, because I love our interwebs muggle bond – I can forgive you since you have such an amazing excuse.
However, to prevent me from flying my butt across the country and strapping you to a hospital bed to wheel you to the theater, you have to make me a promise…
The first time you have the opportunity to scold PB&J (and it must be them collectively) you have to say – ‘Do you have any idea what I sacrificed for you? I missed the premiere of HARRY POTTER!’
Oh, and you have to tape it. So that I can see.
See, I’m reasonable people!
Hey, just came over from Kate’s site and wanted to say hi! I am 30 weeks preg with triplets, loved reading your archives! Have added you to my reader to keep up with you!
xx
Ok, so I don’t know you b/c today is my first time here (hi!) and we have multiples in common (i have 6yo twin girls – also not robots). I have to suggest to you…read the book! Please! From this post it sounds like you are worried about spoilers, so maybe that means you haven’t read the books. They are so much better than the movies. And it would be perfection while you are unable to go to the movie!
Seriously. Read the book. You won’t regret it.
