In which I make excuses
I’m taking a brief sabbatical from Project 365. I feel like a total turd for doing so – I’m not into quitting – but taking photos of food, napping spots and my heating pad is BORING. I don’t want to take them, and you don’t want to see them.
So until my life gets a little more thrilling than what it’s been this last week, you’ll have to deal with possible random photos and long-winded stories.
On with the stories.
Depending who you ask, my pregnancy age flipped to 12 weeks today. Three months. Unbelievable. I’m still hanging out in the first trimester, though I’m likely already a third of the way through this triplet pregnancy.
CRAZY.
I have my first appointment with the MFM/perinatologist (they’re the fancy OBs who specialize in high-risk pregnancies) tomorrow. Assuming I get the all-clear from them, my first baby shower will take place back home in NE Ohio over Labor Day weekend.
Yep. Like, in a month.
Why so soon? I’ll probably have my traveling leash cut really short pretty early on in the pregnancy. I’m hoping they don’t shorten it to only go between my bed and the bathroom super soon, but it’s their call.
That being said, gift registries will have to be done, ohhhh, yesterday. They weren’t.
What was done yesterday was pretty big, though.
If you follow me on Twitter, you know I’ve been geeking out over triplet strollers and car seats and other such get-us-out-of-the-house necessities. You’d think we’d be limited in our choices, but since we aren’t particularly interested (anymore) in a triplet stroller, the possibilities are somewhat endless.
Well, for strollers.
For car seats, we’re somewhat limited. The babies’ main taxi cab will be my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. That’s right, we’re hanging onto my small SUV for the time being. We’re determined to make it work and will try until we’re desperate enough to drag ourselves (all five of us) crying onto the used mini-van lot.
It’s pretty common knowledge that the Internet is King Fear Monger, but Rob and I have poo-pooed the idea that fitting three infant car seats across the backseat was impossible.
Guess who was right. Oh, that’d be us. Boo-ya, Internet! In your face!
The lovely folks at Buy Buy Baby will haul out car seats to test fit into your vehicle. Yesterday, we test fit three Graco SnugRide 22s. They fit lovely – and with room to spare!
Hmm. Maybe I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. Why we chose the SnugRide is directly related to our stroller choice, which I haven’t even mentioned yet.
Instead of the behemoth Peg Perego Triplette (large and in charge yet gorgeous), we’re opting for one Baby Trend Double Snap-N-Go and one single Snap-N-Go – both of which we’re hoping to find at upcoming consignment sales or on CraigsList. If I’m nutty enough to attempt taking PB&J out by myself, I’ll wear one baby (carrier type TBD) and push the other two in the DSNG. In the future, when we’re tired of lugging the babes in their infant carriers, we’ll get a Baby Jogger City Mini Double and one TBD single stroller (umbrella? other? who knows?).
So, back to the SnugRide. Those and the Peg Perego infant seats fit the best in the DSNG, and since the Pegs have wonky handle-release latches that just beg for pinched fingers (ours, not baby fingers), we opted for the SnugRides that have easy-to-reach latches. Since they’ll be sharing close quarters and all. Both seat types fit AWESOMELY in my car, but the SnugRides seem like they’ll be so much easier to get in and out.
Are you bored with the baby gear talk yet? I KNOW. I am, too. Well, kind of. I just hate making decisions when there are only a million options and a million different opinions over which is stellar and which will send you straight to the depths of Hell. If you were around me at all in my wedding-planning days, you know that I dove head first into getting whatever decisions I could done and out of the way ASAP just so I wouldn’t have to think about this one or that one or that other on ANYMORE.
Car seats: check. Strollers: 3/4 of a check.
Which leads to the next not-so-difficult decision we made this weekend: cribs. We figured out pretty early on in the game that we’ll need pretty basic cribs – most likely models that look the same on all four edges in case we opt to push all three cribs together (two neighboring each other on their long sides with the third horizontally making up the “foot” of their three-crib rectangle). Basically, having no front/back/sides means we have four edges to work with in any combination we can come up with. That’s essential when putting three wee babes into one room together.
So! Our cribs will be from Ikea – the Gulliver crib, to be more exact. They look so Plain Jane, but you’ll just have to trust me (or hit up Google Images) when I say sheets and a crib skirt do wonders to dress up the cribs and make them into the cutesy sleep hangouts that are so popular now.
Whew! How’s that for a detailed update? I nap, eat and whine about backaches and headaches, and we made some serious baby-gear decisions.
For those wondering about other pregnancy stuffs, I still haven’t barfed once, and the only cravings I have are no different from my pre-pregnancy cravings. In fact, all I crave lately is ibuprofen. Acetaminophen SUCKS ASS at touching my headaches or backaches. I’d be better off taking Tic-Tacs. Plus, those don’t taste like butt and make me gag.
On that note, send us happy thoughts, well wishes and prayers that all goes well at the appointment tomorrow. I should have some good new photos of PB&J to share off, plus a new photo of The Belly.

Shopping for multiples is kind of a nightmare, isn’t it? I’m only having twins, and the whole car seat/stroller/crib thing was tricky!
Have fun at MFM. I love, love, love my MFM specialists so much. They monitor you so closely…it’s wonderful. I kind of wish they could just do the delivery too!
I know this doesn’t mean anything to you now, but the car seat/stroller/crib decision will seem YEARS away by the time you actually use them. I can’t even remember the brand names of all the baby stuff I spent literally HOURS researching, adding to my registry, taking off the registry, and re-adding to the registry. Enjoy the excitement of choosing all that stuff now! Good luck tomorrow!
I was the same way barely pregnant and had made every pick. Done & done was my motto. We have the single city mini and love it like a whole lot. Plain on buying the double if we get our desired time gap, only time will tell. But, basically everyone with kids that sees me fold it stare and then ask the brand. Move over bugaboo, baby jogger is sooooo much better!!
sounds fantastic lady and if you ever have any questions, my Aunt is the proud momma of triplets (2 girls, 1 boy) and I’m sure she could answer any questions you had about logistics. Her kids are fantastic.
Wow! I never would have guessed you could fit three infant seats across. That’s great! The SnugRide was a great seat, we really liked it with the Snap N Go.
Also, keep in mind you can wear two babies at once, if need be. I’ve seen some pretty awesome twin wraps, or even double mei tais or ring slings or combos thereof!
This is my first comment–I really like your site! I highly recommend the book Baby Bargains, which I even checked out at my local library. Although I was only shopping for one baby, I feel like their recommendations were spot-on and saved me a lot of money.
Good luck!
We have that crib for our son, and it’s been great. I’m so practical, though, that spending more than that on a crib made no sense to me.
wow, so are you using the car seats without the bases? i guess i shouldn’t be surprised, i have a triplet mom friend who was able to fit all three of her babies in her prius.
the two stroller idea should work great. we had the triple decker (kinda a triple snap n go) at first and rarely used it. i definitely used the snap n gos way more often. even when the boys were one, i remember using a double stroller and wearing one (though admittedly it was a tad awkward at that point.)
good luck at the doctor today!
LC – I love Baby Bargains! A good friend bought it for us!
Pam – the SnugRides will go in WITH bases, and WITH room to spare. We didn’t get them all hooked into place, but they were all put in position with the LATCH systems lined up and the middle seatbelt where it needs to be. I should have taken a picture. I SUCK!
Thanks for the luck!
If regular Tylenol is making you sick, try the childrens chewable version. I’m 39 weeks pregnant, and that’s the only way I’ve been able to take Tylenol.
Oh, and I would also KILL for an Advil about now.
Regular Tylenol doesn’t make me sick. The taste of the tablets makes me gag – but only if I actually taste them. I have to swallow super fast with a flavored drink to get them down.
Otherwise, Tylenol is fine. It just doesn’t do anything, no matter how much I hope and pray it will. Maybe someday!

So excited for you! I can’t imagine the choices you have to make – I remember almost losing my mind over the options with just one on the way. You have so much to think about and yet it seems like you’re so calm and unfrazzled over it.
AAHHH! I can’t wait till you find out what they each are – well, if you are.
Have you looked at the Baby Trend carseats at all? They go up to 30 pounds, which is helpful, and they will (obviously) fit with the Baby Trend strollers. We have used ours for the past 10 months and since our little guy is short and tiny overall, we will continue to until he is too big for it! They are rated REALLY high with Consumer Reports and are cheap, compared to some other choices.
Does Babies R Us give you a discount for twins/triplets? I thought I heard that somewhere…
I can’t imagine shopping for triplets- I don’t blame you for wanting to get it out of the way! Good luck with your appointment tomorrow!
Once I found out about the pregnancy, and ended up on bedrest for a short time and was really sick I ended up having to stop my 365 too, and I’m only pregnant with one, I can only imagine with three.
((hugs))
I’m working on catching up around here (both on your blog and on blogs in general) … I hope the peri appt went well, I’m currently between peri appts, and hoping the second goes as well as my first one did.
I found you through Heir to Blair
I think I read that you were in NC- if you are close enough to me (Jacksonville) you are more than welcome to have our double snap & go if you haven’t found one yet. We’re done with it 😉
