Yes, you read that correct. TRIPLETS.
Rob and I went to the RE today for my first ultrasound. I’ve been keeping a dirty secret from you guys for nearly three weeks now.
Let’s pause to congratulate me on keeping my lips (mostly) zipped for NEARLY THREE WHOLE WEEKS. I can keep the secrets of all my friends, but if I have my own secret, it’s torture to stay quiet. It’s terrible.
Anywho, you want details?
The doctor came in and asked how I was feeling – nervous, I said. She was asking more about being tired or nauseated, though. Check on the first, and, just yesterday, check on the second. Today was absolutely insane on the anxiety level, though, so my anxiety trumped everything else, and I really didn’t feel any of my previous pregnancy symptoms.
Hence the nervous. I was terrified that we’d go to the doctor today and get awful news again.
Well, it didn’t turn out like that.
I let loose a huge sigh of relief when my doctor spotted a healthy heartbeat of one little baby. And then another. And then another.
She announced the third, and I shit you not, I said, “NO.”
Sorry, Baby C. You scared your mama.
After four amazing beta hCG tests, I was expecting twins (well, if all was well), but I never once suspected three. Only a few teased about the possibility of three (LESLIE), but I’m pretty sure all were joking.
The joke’s on us, apparently.
According to the date of my last menstrual period, I am exactly 6 weeks along today.
Baby A is measuring a bit ahead at 6 weeks, 4 days and has a heartrate of 116.
Baby B is measuring right on the money at 6w1d with a heartrate of 119.
Baby C, our little peanut, is measuring a bit behind at 5w6d with a heartrate of 104.
All measurements match up with their heartrates, though it’s a bit puzzling why Baby C is lagging behind a little. It could be that we have a little bit of a late bloomer, or Baby C might not be as strong as his/her siblings.
For now, it’s triplets. Our doctor advised us that it’s possible one or more might not make the long battle to the outside world, but for now, it’s triplets. My estimated due date (although a bit of a moo point when considering multiple babies) is Valentine’s Day.
I go back for a second ultrasound in two weeks.
Oh, how do we feel about this?
1. SHOCKED.
2. Scared.
3. SHOCKED.
4. Excited.

Ok now that I’ve gotten that out, I could explode for you. I cried a couple weeks ago, but today…I just haven’t stopped smiling. I am so excited and you should know that we’ve been dieing today!! Congratulations mamma! I am so so excited for you! My struggle w/ infertility was short in comparison but I can understand a fraction of what you are going through. Don’t forget to cherish being pregnant because it really does go by so fast. Those little babies are going to be welcomed into a world so filled with love! They sure are lucky!
