I’m interested to hear about Julie & Julia. I got the movie for Christmas & was going to read the book, but I’m a little put off by Julie Powell after reading the synopsis of her new book.

Joanna – My understanding is the movie is much better than the book. The movie focuses on Julia Child more, whereas the book focuse on Julie – who quite frankly came off as a jerk (in the book at least).

I felt she came off kind of neurotic and would approach personal topics and never fully delve into them. I also felt like she didn’t make it full circle. As in, she attempted this journey to find herself or find something about herself or figure something out – but she went nowhere. It wasn’t even that she was learning to cook – she was already a bit of a foody to begin with.

After I read the book I found out she cheated on her husband too. So that makes me like her even less.

It’s a quick read, and entertaining in parts, but I don’t recommend it.

    • Speed. He next book is about her affair, which is why I don’t think I want to read her stuff.

You pretty much confirmed what I was thinking already.

I have seen the movie and she comes off pretty vapid in that, so if it’s worse in the book I’m pretty sure I can find something better to read.

Sorry it took me so long to respond to that. Sheesh.
