I started “Bitter is the New Black,” by Jennifer Lancaster last night. Honestly? I’m annoyed with it so far. Perhaps it’s that my own bitter palate isn’t mixing so well with Jen’s bitterness – think grapefruit mixed with anything else in the world. I’m still trying to figure out which end is up regarding my own recent unemployed status.
I do love Jen’s witty voice, but the ratio of eye rolls to laughs is heavier on the former. I’m fully aware that the reader isn’t meant to sympathize with Jen. As she says, “Bitch had it coming,” but I should be laughing more than growling.
