Nerves and my never-resting brain kept me up till 2:30 last night.
I was up at 5:30 this morning to shower, pack lunches for Rob and I and dash out the door to make it to my RE’s office at opening – 7 a.m.
It’s now 5:30 p.m., and I’m fading fast. Still to-do: Swiffer floors, sort/fold/stash laundry, figure out a dinner plan, eat said dinner, figure out this week’s meals, spend QT with Rob, maybe read some (because I’m still trying to finish “The Wild Things”).
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I’m a sensitive lass, so I try to keep the extraneous caffeine consumption to a 2 p.m. cutoff. I’m walking the wild side today. I pray I’ll be too exhausted to feel lasting effects. All I want is a little boost to carry me till, oh, 10:30. I DARE YOU TO DENY ME OF THAT.
Also, please note the only other fun coffee cup I lay claim to: Harry Potter.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m a giant nerd, AND I LOVE IT.

You’re making a piss-poor first impression, 2010.
I didn’t even bother to edit this photo. It doesn’t deserve to look nice.

- The Keurig: Rob’s most favorite Christmas gift ever. I think he whispers goodnight to Keurig before going to bed each night.
- The mug: Mine. On the front, “Smarty Pants;” on the back, “…Reads the book before seeing the movie. …Has an answer for everything. …Passes every test with flying colors!”
- The contents: My highly sophisticated in-home coffeehouse creation, containing one packet of Land O Lakes Cocoa Classics in Chocolate Supreme and one Van Houtte French Vanilla k-cup.
I told my buddy Jessica a while back that I’d hop on board the 2010 challenge she blogged about joining.
In true Jenny style, I’ve been dragging my feet to actually join the challenge. I’m not one to plan what books I’m going to read much further than what the library has ready for me to pick up or books in a series.
Finally, two days into the new year, I’m stepping up to join.
The Story Siren is running the challenge and has all the info, including a page on which to sign up if you’re interested in participating.
So what, exactly, is the challenge?
- The objective is to read a set number of Young Adult or Middle Grade novels from debut authors published this year.
- Anyone can join, you don’t need a blog to participate.
- The challenge will run from Jan. 1, 2010, through Dec. 31, 2010.
Without further ado, here are my 12 picks*:
“The Deathday Letter,” by Shaun Hutchinson
“Shadow Hills,” by Anastasia Hopcus
“The Mockingbirds,” by Daisy Whitney
“Shooting Kabul,” by N.H. Senzai
“13 to Life: A Werewolf’s Tale,” by Shannon Delaney
“A Match Made in High School,” by Kristin Walker
“What They Always Tell Us,” by Martin Wilson
“The Tension of Opposites,” by Kristin McBride
“The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin,” by Josh Berk
“Nabbed: A Newspaper Mystery,” by Michele Corriel
“A Love Story: Starring My Dead Best Friend,” by Emily Horner
“Losing Faith,” by Denise Jaden
* I may end up selecting different books as the year progresses. I’m lazy and didn’t bother to cross-check publication dates, so I might have chosen 12 books all set to be published in Dec. 2010 for all I know.

Happy New Year, and Happy day 1 of my adventures in Project 365.
Behold, a tired Jenny at 11:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day. My hair is fug (slept-on wavy hair doesn’t revive well, or I don’t know how to do it, and what does revive doesn’t last a full day), I’m in sexy comfy clothes, and my mouth is wide open.
I believe in setting the bar high.
In the cup is a milkshake ($.99 chocolate chip mint from Cookout!), and it’s in my snazzy Buckeyes cup because 1. the Buckeyes won the Rose Bowl today (O-H!) and 2. the Cookout cup had a hole in the bottom.
I usually eat with an audience, but they aren’t usually this assholish. Rocky (the giant cat reaching for my spoon), has an affinity for any spoon-fed food, and Lucky needs to defend any people-food possibilities from going past her first. Magic, my almost 17-year-old kitty, is the black blob behind my face. She was probably trying to get into my lap, not caring about the food.
Also making a cameo in this picture of awesome is one of my new lamps given to me for Christmas by my mother-in-law. Gorgeous, no? Also, also pictured on the table behind me is my current stack of library treasures.
To recap: I look frumpy, my animals look rude, and I admitted to eating a milkshake at 11:30 p.m. Isn’t Project 365 great fun?
